After the basket ball game this last weekend a bunch of the guys all had a party and we ate some food from the Philippines, well prepared Pinoy Style, since the food didn’t actually come from the Philippines. You see all the friends I’ve been hanging out with here are from the Philippines, they are all international teachers. After the food, one of the guys here let me borrow his motorbike, and he borrowed the keys to another motorbike from his friend and the two of us went on a joy ride through the local country side. I didn’t have a helmet because most helmets in Thailand are made for Thia people and Thia people tend to have smaller heads then western people.
So I didn’t have a helmet, but helmets are required in Thailand.
The joy ride was really great, I got up to third gear and passed the guy I was riding with, then we turned around and started back a different route. On the last turn before getting to their drive way by their flat, there was a speed trap set by a whole bunch of Thai Policemen. They had pulled over a bunch of motor cycles and where busy writing tickets.
Before I continue I should tell you that people here in Thailand don’t say English words quite like they do in the USA. For instance Ice Cream is pronounced Ice-a-cream, and Stop is pronounced Sa-Top.
So I look at the police officers as I ride past them and first one then two officers see me and shout after me “Sa-Top, Sa-Top!” I just kept going like I didn’t understand them, because truthfully it didn’t really register that they wanted me to stop until I was already around the corner. My friend and I kept going until we got to our drive way, we pulled in and got off. Then we all had a good laugh about the Thia Police, they joked that I’ll get my ticket in the mail later.
Cheers
